Most computer users pay little attention to their Registry. It is not surprising  though, because it is not a place that you want to go 'tinkering' around in. Windows Registry is a hierarchical database that stores configuration settings and options on Microsoft Windows operating systems. It contains settings for low-level operating system components as well as the applications running on the platform: the kernel, device drivers, services, SAM, user interface and third party applications all make use of the Registry.

As you can see, the Registry contains settings that control every aspect of your computer and because it is a database that changes as the condition of your computer change, it can get cluttered with entries that are no longer needed or have changed. You need a clean registry.
