Voice recognition systems are becoming more and more popular. As the technology improves, we are seeing a rebirth of voice activated and voice controlled devices and applications. I say 'rebirth' because the technology isn't new and there have been voice operated systems and devices, but the previous incarnations have been mediocre at best. Often the voice commands had to be repeated over and over for the voice recognition system to understand and very low levels of background noise could make it near impossible to give a working command. 


The newer versions of voice recognition systems are much better. Due to the advance of the technology, we are seeing voice controlled devices and systems making a come back. Businesses have incorporated voice recognition in their  customer services phone centers to help expedite customer service. Smart phone have voice activated functions and since  Apple introduced Siri, your seeing more new devices highlighting their voice functions. As the technology continues to advance your will see more voice systems .... get used to it.
