Back it Up

Data storage systems have always been very important but they are becoming increasingly important with the types and the amounts of data that needs to be stored and/or backed-up. For many years, it was primarily large corporations, organizations and governmental departments that focused on back-up and storage challenges. This was true because these large entities had laws and guidelines that governed data retention as well as the entity's need to amass large amounts of data for various reasons.

Things are changing. Now, an argument can be made for the importance of everyone, from the average person to the large corporation. Think about it all of the data that you amass. You get electronic statements from everyone from your cable television provider to your car insurance carrier. You get receipts emailed to you for online purchases. Think of all your digital pictures, videos and various other files. These things are important to you so they need to be backed up and stored safely so they are available for you when you need them.

Data saving tips:

  • back your data up to an external source
  • back your data up in multiple locations (redundancy)
  • create a back up schedule depending on the rate at which you amass data
