Some technology is more glamorous than others. We could get into a long discussions about virtual computer processors or the specifications of semi-conductors and sound really intelligent. That is nice but most technology is very practice and serves a basic need. some technology, like radio technology, has remained the same, because it works very well, as it is. Radio technology, as with other technologies, has been some advancements in range and reliability, but the basic science behind radios and radio transmission has been unchanged.
Two way radios are one of the types of radios that have been around for a long time and continue to remain very useful and relevant. A two-way radio allows a person to have a conversation with another person(s), with similar radios operating on the same radio frequency or channel. Two-way radios are made in mobile formats, stationary formats and hand-held portable formats. We all know the hand-held varieties as walkie-talkies!
Two way radios are very useful for short conversations to convey a message. They operate of radio frequencies which makes them very reliable. The military uses them to communication in the 'field'. These two way radios have a very large operating range and often work on encrypted radio frequencies. Many businesses use two way radios to communicate with off-site workers, to have workers effectively communicate with one another or if they have dispatch functions. One of the newer uses for two way radios is person. Many people use two way radios to communicate with other family members when they are out and may split up. Example, a family goes to an amusement park. They may use small two way radios for easy, direct communications with each other while in the park. These 'personal' two way radios are usually less expensive and have a small range (maybe a few miles).
