With technology, things can sometimes change very, very quickly. This applies to all technology too. Just think about all the technology that has come and gone. The vinyl record, the cassette and the vhs video tape have all been virtually eliminated from our tech selection. This is not a bad thing because each new technology give us advancement and improvements, but it can make it difficult to preserve and maintain audio and/or video formats that are useful and compatible with newer technologies.
Remember 8mm video was the high-quality standard for video recording? Soon that was replaced by better, digital recording medium. Now, you recorded all your great memories on 8mm and it would be crazy to get rid of it and lose the memories. You would need to have them converted to a format that newer technology can read. 8mm video conversion would be the way to get your old videos into a new media format. Conversion techniques and software have evolved to a level that many conversions can be done without compromising the quality of the original video.There is no need in trying to find old equipment to play your old media, just get your videos converted and you can keep the old media just for nostalgia.
