A New Way to Manage Your Technology

Technology is Vital to the Success of a Business

Nowadays, businesses rely on technology for their continued success. Without technology, your business would not be able to keep up with the competition. Although it may be hard to manage your technology, you can find a wide range of alternatives that can help you. Companies like Cal Net can offer technology management at prices that will fit your budget. By doing this, you won't have to worry about your technology. You will be able to entrust this task to professionals who are trained in technology.

I.T. Support and Cloud Services

Two of the most important features in technology can include I.T. support and cloud services. I.T. support is essential to have the right information and support when you have problems with your technology devices, such as your computers, laptops or network setup, just to mention a few. Since cloud technology is still new, it can be a bit confusing and hard to understand. Moreover, websites like www.calnettech.com can help you get the most out of these cloud services.

Training and Emergency Repairs

You can also acquire technology training for yourself and your employees. This can help your employees navigate through the technology-based devices. Training can also help to troubleshoot any problems that may arise from computers or PC tablets. However, some repairs do require much more knowledge and training. Emergency repairs are other features that you can take advantage of from companies that offer technology management. This can help you save time and money when one of your technology devices breaks down so that you can get your business back to normal.

Great Results for Your Business

Rest assured that you will get the results that you want for your business. Whether your business is medical, retail or any other type, having the proper technology will enhance your overall business. Industries that can use these types of services will include accounting, education, manufacturing and many others. You can get in contact with I.T. consultants so that you can get the best services for your technology. These consultants are trained experts when it comes to technology.

Know when it's Time to Learn

Technology is a part of our lives in just about every aspect. From our home-life and our personal devices to our jobs and all the technology that we encounter there. For small business owners, technology can make your operation more efficient, allow you to better compete with larger companies, and increase profits. Integrating the proper technologies into your small business is a must.
Many small business owners are forced to be jacks of all trades and that is fine, for the most part, but the business owner have to, also be aware and recognize when a task is beyond their present knowledge. This is especially true for technological matters. For example, a small business owner may have enough knowledge to maintain his website once it is set up and he/she is given an overview. That same business owner may not understand how properly secure his web assets. In this case, the small business owner may take Cisco IronPort training courses or invest in an employee to get trained and oversee those tasks. F5 training courses maybe taken if an owner wanted to have a greater understanding of how his extended network could be configured. At any rate, the key is recognizing your limitations as a business owner, knowing where to get the correct information or training and being honest enough to know when you should let some one else learn or oversee a particular technological task.

Choosing an Ad Agency: Consider their handle on Technology

It's the top of the year and many companies are planning out their strategies for increasing their success. One area that many companies, small and large, will be planning is how to spend their advertising dollars.

This is not a business blog, but technology plays a role in just about everything in this day and age. Even when looking for an advertising agency, you must consider how well the agency is able to incorporate technology in creating advertising solutions and how well they incorporate technology in operating their business. This does not mean that, in choosing an ad agency, you go with a company that ignores and does not used 'old media' (print, television, etc.), but you want a company that has the expertise to use the best of new technologies and media and merge that with effective 'old media'.

You want a company that can do the follow things for you:
  1. Internet Marketing - The Internet is a technology that is firmly entrenched in our lives. People shop, socialize, learn and work on the Internet. You want a company that through search engine optimization, or SEO, and pay per click management, or PPC, we can position your website to intercept those consumers searching for the products and services you provide.
  2. Public Relations - You ant a company that can help you manage your reputation and build your brand. This can be done using 'old media' and new technologies as well.
  3. Marketing ROI - You want a company that can provide return-on-investment from your marketing dollars and are able to show you where your money is spent and how effective your advertising is being. You want a tech-savvy company to use technologies to help you maximize your return-on-investment and  track your campaigns effectiveness.

Old and New Media: Create a Buzz

As with everything else, industries are evolving with technological advances. The Internet has changed the way people get their information and that has changed the advertisers' strategies. An advertising agency must approach their ad campaigns in new and different ways. That Advertising Agency is a company that understand the power of the Internet, but also understands that the most effective ad campaigns are a mixture of old-media and new-media.

The key is to use the internet, it's tools and surrounding technology to get exposure for your for your product or services. Internet marketing, website building, search engine optimization and banner placements are very effective ways to reach your target audience. A good advertising agency with utilize all those tools in ad campaigns tailored to the client's specific needs.

A great advertising agency will also use old-media, in conjunction with new media to take an ad campaign to the next level. Old-media include television, radio and print. These forms of media are still very effective at conveying an advertisers message. Along with the power of the Internet and it's many forms of distribution, mixed-media campaigns are most effective.

Technology and Multiple Sclerosis

Today, more and more people are using technology to enhance their lives, and people with MS are no exception. Like everyone else, people living with Multiple Sclerosis use their computers and the Internet to exchange e-mail, research topics that interest them, shop online, keep up on the news, manage their finances, play games, and download music and videos.

They also use technology to manage and learn more about their disease. Nearly three-quarters have used technology or the Internet to help manage their MS treatment regimen, which includes looking up information about new medications and side effects, finding out about new treatment options, MS diet information and conducting research before selecting medications. In addition, more than half say that the Internet helps them to be their own advocate concerning their MS.

Clearly, fear of technology is not preventing people with MS from taking advantage of accessible technologies that could help them overcome many of their symptoms. According to the study, nearly all people with MS use computers and the Internet (93 percent for both) and cell phones (91 percent), which is significantly higher than usage in the general U.S. adult population. According to the Simmons National Consumer Survey in Spring 2006, for example, 80 percent of U.S. adults use computers, 75 percent use the Internet, and 69 percent use cell phones.

The study found that most people with MS are quite comfortable using technology. In fact, 49 percent say that their use of technology has increased since they were diagnosed with MS, while only 12 percent say they now use technology less than before.

Statistics are from a study entitled: Staying Connected: An Investigation of How Technology Affects People Living with MS

Woman love their tech too!

I would never claim to be an expert on what woman want, no matter what the topic was... but the statistics paint a picture of what the 'average' woman looks for when it comes to her tech.

What technology brands are most admired among women? Apple and Sony take the prize with Microsoft and Dell tying for third place, according to a recent "Women & Digital Life" study conducted by the Solutions Research Group.

About 20 percent of women reported that Apple was the technology brand or company they admire most, followed by Sony at 14 percent, and Microsoft and Dell at 10 percent. Hewlett-Packard came in at 6 percent, followed by Verizon and Google, which each earned 2 percent of the vote.

SRG polled 2,000 women ages 12 and up on six areas: attitudes/use of technology, TV and entertainment, gaming, wireless/mobile, broadband and social media.

When asked about the technology that has had the biggest impact on their lives in the last two years, 26 percent of women said the Internet, followed by computers at 22 percent, and cell phones at 18 percent.

Women polled said they spent an average of 22.9 hours per week online. When asked what they did online in the last month, 61 percent of women said they watched short video clips, 58 percent said they surfed the Web with their kids, and 57 percent said they purchased items online.

About 50 percent used social media Web sites like Facebook and MySpace.

About 17 percent of women are using smartphones, and 18 percent have regular mobile phones. LG was the top brand choice, with 20 percent of the votes, followed by full keyboard BlackBerry devices at 15 percent and the BlackBerry Pearl at 13 percent.

About 12 percent of respondents used the iPhone, and 7 percent were on Palm devices.

Overall, mobile activity has increased since SRG conducted a similar poll in 2007. Texting has increased from 49 percent to 61 percent, as has taking photos on mobile phones, which jumped from 46 percent to 55 percent.

About 36 percent of women have bought a new gadget like a computer, cell phone, or digital camera in the last six months. About 42 percent of women 25 to 39 have made such a purchase, eclipsed only by the 44 percent of women with kids aged 12 and under.

On the video game front, Sony's high market share among the tech brands most admired by women was largely due to the popularity of its PlayStation 2 gaming systems. Of the women with gaming consoles, 49 percent had the PS2, followed by the Nintendo Wii with 40 percent, and the Nintendo DS and Xbox 360, both with 30 percent.

Wal-Mart's effort to buoy its electronics department has apparently paid off among women. About 32 percent said they used the retailing giant to make their technology purchases, followed by Best Buy at 29 percent, and the now defunct Circuit City at 7 percent. Also on the list was Target at 7 percent, the Apple Store at 5 percent and K-Mart at 4 percent.

SRG also asked women about their thoughts about ease of use and purchase. About 59 percent of those polled believed that today's technology is easier to use, compared to 18 percent who felt the opposite. About 32 percent of women found the number of choices intimidating, but 47 percent were comfortable with the selection.

The women were also asked if technology was a "guy thing" - to which 77 percent overwhelmingly replied that it was not.

The Watch-Phone

This is really hot! This is not the first time useful electronics have been reduced to be able to fit on the wrist, but this is certainly an improvement on the watch-radio,watch-calculator, etc.
The LG-GD910 comes in a curved metallic case that straps onto the wrist like a watch, uses a 1.43-inch touch screen, and moves data at snappy HSDPA speeds.

It will offer other features, including a camera for video calls and snapshots, a text-to-speech engine for voice dialing and composing text messages, a built-in MP3 player, and Bluetooth. Plus it is water-proof!!!!

The top four trends in IT

One of the top priorities for me at large trade shows like Interop — with 18,000 attendees and 500 vendors — is to try to sniff out big IT trends. I look at the booths that are getting the most traffic, the sessions that appear to be the most crowded, the topics that get the quickest rise out of attendees, and the buzz phrases coming out of the lips of the most people.

Here are the top four trends that I identified at Interop Las Vegas 2008.

4. Holistic manageability

Okay, no one was actually using this phrase at Interop. I just made it up. I needed something to describe the fact that there’s a demand for infrastructure management tools that take holistic view of IT operations. This is a reaction against the current climate in which a lot of IT shops have a plethora of tools — each a silo unto itself — to measure, manage, and report on the various pieces of the infrastructure. This can result in confusion, overlap, and lots of different software agents running on the same servers and systems.

What IT managers want instead is a single dashboard for viewing, creating reports, and — whenever possible — implementing configuration changes. Splunk is grooming its IT search platform to meet this demand. Microsoft is moving in this direction with Forefront and System Center. This approach is the infrastructure management equivalent of consolidating corporate reports with Business Intelligence (BI) software instead of relying on a scattered network of Excel reports and Web-based dashboards.

3. Supporting a decentralized workforce

At Interop, one vendor told me that 70% of all employees now work outside of the corporate headquarters. Another vendor told me that number is actually up to 80%. One representative of a very large IT company said that it recently moved into a new headquarters and that the employee-to-workstation ratio is now 4-to-1 (up from 1.5-to-1). That’s because they now have a lot more mobile employees and they actively encourage employees to work from home during times they don’t need to come into the office.

There were a number of technologies taking center stage in order to support an ever larger number of remote offices, telecommuters, and road warriors. One is fixed mobile convergence, which is aimed at allowing employees to use a dual-mode phone to connect over the Wi-Fi network at the corporate office (or their home) and then to connect over the cellular network when not on a trusted Wi-Fi network. FMC also allows employees to consolidate phone numbers and voicemail inboxes.

Another technology for enabling a decentralized workforce is what I call “WAN caching.” You’ll hear it called WAN optimization, WAN acceleration, and a number of other marketing terms, but the speed burst comes primarily from caching large files so that they aren’t being sent over the WAN multiple times.

2. Data center consolidation and centralization

Sun Microsystems recently consolidated 500 racks of servers down to 65. IBM is in the process of consolidating 4,000 servers into 30 mainframes. Hewlett-Packard is currently consolidating 85 data centers down to six. Those are three of the most well-publicized data center consolidations, but every direction you look in IT right now you can find a company doing a big squeeze on a data center. At Gartner’s data center conference, 94% of 735 respondents reported that they were planning, had completed, or were in the process of doing a data center consolidation.

The forces driving this trend are cost savings, energy conservation, IT simplification, and centralization. The last factor might seem to contradict the previous issue of a decentralized workforce but, in fact, it actually supports it. As the location of workers is less certain and more fluid, it makes more sense to centralize services so that the workers can get a similar experience no matter where they are located.

Some of the technologies supporting this trend are server virtualization, storage virtualization, utility computing, managed services, and Software-as-a-Service (SaaS).

1. Green IT and “greenwashing”

The most talked about theme at this Interop — by a couple touchdowns — was Green IT. If I had any doubt before Interop that IT managers considered Green IT a serious priority and not a flowery ideal, then those doubts were thrown out the window last week.

While most IT managers used to never even see the company’s power bill — let alone be tasked to measure and conserve energy usage — it was clear from a lot of attendees that is changing quickly and dramatically. I was also surprised to see how many IT leaders are anticipating the arrival of a cap-and-trade system for carbon emissions that will also change the way they do business. As it turned out, energy conservation, carbon emissions, and dealing with electronic waste were three major Green IT themes at the EnergyCamp unconference at Interop, especially the first two because they could potentially have major ramifications for IT.

It was also clear that nearly ever vendor had a pitch, angle, or spin to explain how their product was an energy saver or an asset to companies concerned about Green IT. In fact, this theme was so prevalent that attendees and established green vendors started calling it “greenwashing” (as in green brainwashing). There was definitely a lot of “greenwashing” going on, and I expect to see a lot more at upcoming IT events.

Five Things You Never Knew Your Cell Phone Could Do!

There are a few things that can be done in times of grave emergencies. Your mobile phone can actually be a life saver or an emergency tool for survival. Check out the things that you can do with it:

FIRST - Emergency

The Emergency Number worldwide for Mobile is 112. If you find yourself out of the coverage area of your mobile network and there is an emergency, dial 112 and the mobile will search any existing network to establish the emergency number f or you, and interestingly this number 112 can be dialed even if the keypad is locked. Try it out.

SECOND - Have you locked your keys in the car?

Does your car have remote keyless entry? This may come in handy someday. Good reason to own a cell phone. If you lock your keys in the car and the spare keys are at home, call someone at home on their cell phone from your cell phone. Hold your cell phone about a foot from your car door and have the person at your home press the unlock button, holding it near the mobile phone on their end. Your car will unlock. This will save someone from having to drive your keys to you Distance is no object. You could be hundreds of miles away, and if you can reach someone who has the other "remote" for your car, you can unlock the doors (or the trunk).

Editor's Note: It works! We tried it out and it unlocked our car over a cell phone!

THIRD - Hidden Battery Power

Imagine your cell battery is very low. To activate, press the keys: *3370# Your cell will restart with this reserve and the instrument will show a 50% increase in battery. This reserve will get charged when you charge your cell next time.

FOURTH - How to disable a STOLEN mobile phone?

To check your Mobile phone's serial number, key in the following digits on your phone: *#06# A 15-digit code will appear on the screen. This number is unique to your handset. Write it down and keep it somewhere safe. When your phone gets stolen, you can phone your service provider and give them this code. They will then be able to block your handset so even if the thief changes the SIM card, your phone will be totally useless. You probably won't get your phone back, but at least you know that whoever stole it can't use/sell it either. If everybody does this, there would be no point in people stealing mobile phones.

FIFTH - Free Directory Service for Cells

Cell phone companies are charging us $1.00 to $1.75 or more for 411 information calls when they don't have to. Most of us do not carry a telephone directory in our vehicle, which makes this situation even more of a problem. When you need to use the 411 information option, simply dial: (800) FREE 411, or (800) 373-3411without incurring any charge at all. Program this into your cell phone now.

extra cash online!!!!

Here are some of the paid-to-click websites that I have joined for free. They offer a great opportunity to earn some extra cash. I don't think they will make you rich, but the potential is there. Because your tasks are so simple the pay per click is small, but it adds up and you can do this in your free time with little to no thought required.
